Q4 2014 Release Notes
These notes provide pertinent information regarding the additions to CA Agile Central On-Demand during the fourth quarter of 2014. Features and defect fixes continually released between November 1st and January 31, 2015 are included. Hardware and software requirements, compatibility, and known issues for the CA Agile Central Enterprise and Unlimited Editions during this time period are also provided.
What’s new in Q4
For CA Agile Central Enterprise and Unlimited customers:
Beta version of CA Agile Central Insights now available
Use the Beta CA Agile Central Insights Solution to benchmark data and get detailed, diagnostic analytics to help understand and improve software development performance. CA Agile Central Insights uses a Software Development Performance Index (SDPI) framework. The Agile methodology is powerful for obtaining a high-quality product and a faster time-to-market, but what if your teams could improve even more?
With CA Agile Central Insights, you can:
- Track your teams’ productivity and predictability
- Track the quality of your programs
- Compare your company’s metrics with other companies that use CA Agile Central
Use CA Agile Central Insights to benchmark your team’s performance against data from 13,000 active teams and 160,000 projects. Program managers, product managers, product owners, and executives benefit greatly from the metrics provided by CA Agile Central Insights.
CA Agile Central Insights is only available with Unlimited Edition.
New and improved Task Board app
With the new Task Board features, you can:
- Add tasks to existing work items on the board
- Add new work items (such as user stories) to the board
- Easily accept a task from the front of the card
- Easily block a task (and include a reason if you want) from the front of the card
- Customize the fields you see on task cards
- Edit more fields directly from the front of the task card
- Change the color of the task card
- Use the Task Board app on iteration filtered pages
- Use advanced filtering capabilities
New Custom Board app
A new Custom Board app is now available in the App Catalog.
To customize your board:
- Click the gear menu on the upper right side of the app
- Select the work item Type you want to display on the board from the dropdown menu on the Settings page
- Customize the rows and columns of the board with any two properties of the work item type, such as State.
- Click Save to update the settings for the board.
You can also further customize your board by adding Swimlanes, selecting an Order and/or adding a custom query.
Portfolio Item Dependencies
When you have two or more portfolio items at the same level, and one must be finished first, you can designate the first item as a predecessor. The following portfolio item is given a successor designation, indicating the dependency in both directions.
You can view, create, assign, edit, and remove dependencies for a specific portfolio item when viewing its detail page, after enabling the editable detail page beta feature:
You may also add the Dependencies field to the following board and grid views to quickly see items that proceed or succeed a specific portfolio item:

- Kanban Board app
- Portfolio Kanban Boad page and app
- Release Planning page

- Iteration Status beta page

Print, Import, and Export from Portfolio Items page
The current Portfolio > Portfolio Items page has been enhanced with additional commands in the gear menu. You may now import new portfolio items, export displayed portfolio items, and print the contents of the page:

Milestones: plan and track work against critical delivery dates
Milestones are events that are important to the business. These new planning items provide easier and more flexible tracking of important events, where tags and releases may have been used in the past. Program, product, development and project managers as well as product owners may use milestones to track critical dates. A milestone could be a market event, a tradeshow, or even an important code deploy.
You can manage milestones from the new Milestones summary page. Once created, milestones can be associated to work items from many pages and apps:
- Portfolio Items
- Portfolio Item Timeline
- Portfolio Kanban
- Release Planning Board
- Detail pages
- Iteration Status
- Iteration Planning
- Kanban Board app

Beta version of new Portfolio Items page
We have released a beta version of the Portfolio Items page, that takes advantage of exciting technology recently provided by the Iteration Status page beta.
The Portfolio Items beta provides a hierarchical grid view of your portfolio items. Depending on the portfolio item type selected, you can view your hierarchy from a top level theme, all the way down to tasks. Additional features include:
- Create filters to display only the fields and portfolio items you care about
- Quick filter by Owner
- Full screen view option
To use the new page, click Try New Version, located at the upper-left of the page.

Changes to the SOAP, REST, & JSON Web Service API
Web Services API deprecation policy
In order to support developer toolkits, custom apps, and queries more effectively, we are introducing a formal deprecation policy to the Web Services API. With the new policy, we will make commercially reasonable efforts to support older versions of the WSAPI for one year after a new version is released.
The following WSAPI versions will no longer be supported by the date indicated in parentheses: 1.42 (May 8, 2014); 1.43 (June 20, 2014).
The current version of the WSAPI, 2.0, is fully supported. Its one year deprecation period will begin on the date that the next version is released. You may review the full deprecation policy in the CA Agile Central Web Services API documentation.
Hardware and software requirements
We at CA Agile Central are committed to making our software easily accessible. You can access CA Agile Central wherever you have an Internet connection via a PC, Linux, or Macintosh computer. Because this software is available through the World Wide Web, many of the constraints regarding which computer and software you use to access this material have been removed.
Nevertheless, it is not possible or practical for us to support every operating system and browser combination that is available. To take advantage of the newest CA Agile Central features, we recommend that you use one of the following fully supported browsers:
- Internet Explorer*
We support the two latest versions of each of these browsers. We do not recommend using development, test, or beta versions of these web browsers. Versions that are not publicly released may not work properly with the CA Agile Central application. In particular we strongly suggest using Chrome.
* Internet Explorer Currently, we support Internet Explorer 11, Internet Explorer 10, and Internet Explorer 9. CA Agile Central does not support Internet Explorer 6, 7, or 8.
- Minimum Adobe Reader 5.0 Microsoft Windows platforms (not Linux)
- Adobe Reader 7.0 or higher recommended
- Minimum 1024 X 768 X 256-color video resolution, 1280 x 1024 recommended.
Defects fixed in Q4
The following defects were resolved and patched during the first quarter of 2014:
- DE22782 - Custom views on User Stories page defaulting conditions to <no entry> for some users
- DE22941 - Custom Grid app not showing currently selected tags when performing an inline edit
- DE22963 - Some connectors and integrations unable to copy attachments to CA Agile Central
- DE23510 - Features sorted by planned start date on the Portfolio Items page not loading
- DE23515 - Backlog filtering on custom fields yields error
- DE23541 - Task Board does not honor owner filter
Known issues in Q4
Multiple notification emails for single changes
Some users receive several email notifications for a single change they have made to a defect.
Formatting options are disabled when editing artifacts in Internet Explorer 10 and 11
When editing a user story or defect via the pop-up editor, formatting options are greyed out and disabled.
Not all work items may be recovered from the Recycle Bin
Only user stories, portfolio items, defects, test cases, and tasks are recoverable from the Recycle Bin.
Dragging test sets into the backlog on the Plan page
Dragging a test set from an iteration into the backlog on the Plan page will appear to make the test set disappear. The test set is still in CA Agile Central, but it has become unscheduled. To view the test set, go to the Iteration Status page and choose an iteration drop-down value of Unscheduled.
Popup blockers and CA Agile Central
Be aware that some of CA Agile Central’s content is displayed using popup windows. Popup blockers may inhibit this functionality. To correct this, configure your popup blockers to allow CA Agile Central popups.
Salesforce.com Integration: Create defect function does not instantly respond
The create defect function found in Salesforce does not immediately provide feedback from the associated CA Agile Central subscription. This may result in the inadvertent creation of multiple defects. Click the button only once to avoid this issue.
Pasting formatted text from MS Word may result in error
Copy-pasting rich-format text into a work item editor from Microsoft Word may result in formatting or system errors. To work around this issue, compose directly in the CA Agile Central work item editors, or convert your entry to plain text before pasting.
