Use keystrokes on various Rally pages to expedite data entry and editing. See the tables below for available keystrokes and the actions they perform. Keyboard shortcuts include:

General shortcuts

General keyboard shortcuts are available when viewing data in Rally. You may use them to quickly navigate to a new location, create a new work item, or view the next work item in a related series.

At anytime, press the ? key (shift + /) to display a list of available general shortcuts. The list displays any shortcuts that you may use, depending on the page or work item you are viewing.

Note:
  • To clear the shortcut display or to cancel a shortcut, press Esc.
  • While using a Custom URL app running another website in Rally, keyboard shortcuts may not respond.

Navigate

Use these keystrokes from any location in Rally to quickly move to another page.

Keystroke Action
/ Moves your cursor to the search field on the page
G then B Navigates to the Backlog page
G then P Navigates to the Plan page
G then S Navigates to the User Stories page
G then D Navigates to the Defects page
G then A Navigates to the Dashboard page
G then I Navigates to the Iteration Status page
G then R Navigates to the Release Status page
G then T Navigates to the Tasks page
Esc Cancels any shortcut after pressing G

Create

Use these keystrokes from any location in Rally to create a new work item without leaving the page. When using these shortcuts, an editor window displays.

C then S Creates a new user story
C then D Creates a new defect
C then T Creates a new test case (Rally Quality Manager required)
Esc Cancels any shortcut after pressing C
/ Moves your cursor to the search field on the page

Detail pages

The following shortcuts are available when viewing the detail page of a work item. Different keystrokes are available if the work item is scheduled in a release, iteration, or has a parent.

Keystroke Action
E Opens an editor window for the current work item
N then I Navigates to the next higher-ranked work item of the same type in the iteration (if assigned)
P then I Navigates to the next lower-ranked work item of the same type in the iteration (if assigned)
N then R Navigates to the next higher-ranked work item of the same type in the release (if assigned)
P then R Navigates to the next lower-ranked work item of the same type in the release (if assigned)
N then P Navigates to the next higher-ranked child of the same type (if the user story or portfolio item has a parent)
P then P Navigates to the next lower-ranked child of the same type (if the user story or portfolio item has a parent)
Esc Cancels any shortcut after pressing the first key
/ Moves your cursor to the search field on the page

Inline edit and add shortcuts

Inline edit on the Backlog page and inside of dashboard apps

To use these keystrokes, you must first be in inline editing mode. To enter this mode, double-click any editable field on the Backlog page or inside of a dashboard app.

Keystroke Action
Tab Moves to the next editable field to the right. If already at the last field, moves to the first editable field on the next row.
Shift + Tab Moves to the next editable field to the left. If already at the first field, moves to the last editable field on the previous row.
Up/Down Arrows Cycles through the list of available values when a drop-down list field is highlighted.
Enter Saves any changes in the row, places edit cursor in row below.
Shift + Enter Saves any changes in the row, places edit cursor in row above.
Esc Exits inline editing mode, cancels any pending changes.

Inline edit on summary pages

To use these keystrokes, you must first be in inline editing mode. To enter this mode, double-click any editable field on the page. Pages that accept inline editing include:

  • Plan tab
    • User Stories
    • Releases
    • Iterations
    • Plan
  • Track tab
    • Iteration Status
    • Team Status
    • Release Status
    • Tasks
  • Quality tab
    • Defects
    • Defect Suites
    • Test Cases
    • Test Plan

To use these keystrokes, you must first be in inline add mode. To enter this mode, click Actions, then Inline Add. Pages that accept inline additions includes:

  • Quality tab
    • Defects
    • Defect Suites
    • Test Cases
    • Test Plan

Rich text editor shortcuts

Some keyboard shortcuts are available when working in rich text fields. Rich text fields are located in work item editor windows. A field that has the text toolbar below is rich text.
